Yucateco sponsoring Nigerian boxers to Ghana for Street2Champions amateur tournament

As part of its effort to further expose Nigerian pugilists beyond borderlines, Yucateco Boxing Promotions under the leadership of Hon. Omonlei Imadu has confirmed its readiness to sponsor selected Nigerian boxers to Ghana for the “Street 2 Champions” amateur championship.

The tournament sanctioned by the African Boxing Union (ABU) and the World Boxing Council (WBC) will feature pugilists from Nigeria and host country, Ghana. The event organised by Ghanaian syndicate, ACE Power Promotions in collaboration with the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) will hold on Friday March 28th at the Bukom Park in Accra.

The Chief Executive Officer of Yucateco Boxing Promotions, Omonlei Imadu, said the tournament will further expose Nigerian boxers beyond the shores of the country.

“This is another opportunity to expose our boxers, hence my resolve to ensure that they go out there and be part of the tournament. As we speak, every of their traveling arrangements have been completed including hotel accommodation and feeding in Ghana,” he said.

“Since we successful hosted the first ever WBC-ABU Amateur tournament in February, these boxers have shown a great deal of hunger to move beyond their current status and that’s what a major international tournaments does to the mentality of young pugilist,” Imadu added.

The President of the Boxing Promoters Association Of Nigeria (BPAN) further revealed his plans and programs for amateur boxers in the coming months.

“We have a lot of activities lined up for the rest of the year, the finale of the Yucateco Boxing League Season 2 will hold in April, and thereafter we have several other international tournaments lined up within and outside Africa,” he disclosed.

“Our vision is to create a stream of activities around amateur boxing in Nigeria and this would bring about a pathway for these pugilists to get the desired exposure,” Hon. Imadu said.

Nigerian pugilists selected for the “Street 2 Champions” tournament in Ghana include Faruk Oshikoya – 51kg Male, Michael Ogunremi – 54kg Male, Robiu Abdullah – 57kg Male, Riliwan Salawu – 60kg Male, Precious Anine – 60kg Female, and David Akintola – 75kg Male.
