Hem defeats Ghana’s John Zile to win WBO youth world title

Siyabulela ‘Showtime’ Hem outpointed John Zile from Ghana at a tournament, which started on Friday evening and ended early on Saturday morning the Border Conference Centre in Abbotsford, East London.

As a result of the win over the Ghanaian, Hem became the new World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Youth junior-featherweight champion as he recorded a unanimous decision victory.

John Zile – demands rematch

Zile kept on coming forward as if he didn’t feel Hem’s power. However, all three judges scored the fight in Hem’s favour with Pumeza Zinakile’s scorecard reading 97-92 while Patrick Mukandiwa and Angel Simasiku had the Duncan Village-born champion winning by 96-93 on their scorecards.

Meanwhile, Siseko Teyisi successfully defended his South African junior-flyweight title following a points win over Abongile Jacob in the main supporting bout.

All three judges nodded in agreement saying that Siseko, who decked Jacob twice, had done enough to win the fight. Allen Matakane scored the fight 119-107, Thandi Ngodwana’s scorecard read 116-110 and Siphiwo Mbini had Teyisi winning by 117-109.
