Black Queens thump Tanzania to qualify for WAFCON quarter finals

The Black Queens of Ghana delivered a dominant second-half display to secure a convincing 4–1 victory over Tanzania, booking their place in the quarter-finals of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Morocco 2024 on Monday, July 14, 2025.

Ghana took an early lead in the 12th minute when Princella Adubea calmly finished from the center of the box, capitalizing on a well-worked move to give her side a deserved advantage.

Tanzania responded admirably and were rewarded just before halftime. Stumai Athumani latched onto a headed pass from Enekia Lunyamila to equalize, sending the teams into the break level at 1–1.

The second half belonged to the Black Queens. In the 63rd minute, Alice Kusi restored Ghana’s lead from the penalty spot after Princess Marfo was fouled in the area. Kusi stepped up confidently and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way.

As the match wore on, Ghana’s quality and intensity began to overwhelm the Tanzanian defence. Evelyn Badu made it 3–1 in the 87th minute, finishing from close range following a well-executed set-piece.

In stoppage time, Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah capped off a clinical counter-attack, slotting home to seal an emphatic 4–1 win.

Ghana’s resilience and attacking flair proved too much for Tanzania, who battled bravely but were ultimately outclassed in the latter stages.

With this commanding victory, the Black Queens advance to the knockout rounds full of confidence, underlining their credentials as serious contenders in the tournament.
