Victor Cudjoe of Young Stars Cycling Club emerged victorious of the 3rd edition of the Obour Cycling Challenge which pedalled off to a resounding success in the Eastern Region of Ghana last weekend. The 120-kilometer race, which started from Nsawam and ended at Nsawam Teacher Mantsei, saw Cudjoe dominating the competition and crossing the finish line first with a strong performance.
Cudjoe, a police officer, beat 35 other cyclists to claim the top prize. He finished ahead of Ransford Ampiah, who secured second place, and Prince Adjei, who took third spot.
The highly competitive race recorded an average speed of 36.3 km/h and a time of 3 hours, 27 minutes, and 40 seconds.
In the final stretch, top cyclists like Frank Akuffu, Michael Naaba, Francis Owusu, Solomon Tagoe, Humphrey Ayittey, Prince Adjei, Prince Kudjofia, and Foster Doevi were all fighting for position, but Cudjoe’s determination and skill paid off as he crossed the finish line first.
The Obour Cycling Challenge has grown in popularity, and the organizers have promised an even more spectacular event in the future.
Shaaban Mohammed, General Secretary of the Ghana Cycling Federation (GCF), praised the organisers for their efforts and assured the federation’s continuous support for future events.
“The Ghana Cycling Federation will support this event to make it world-class. The publicity was great, and the athletes were thrilled on the route, and security was top-notch,” he said.
“This event will not only profit the athletes but the people in Nsawam as a whole. Sports help businesses in a community, so let’s all support the organisers led by Emmanuel Obour,” Mr. Mohammed added.
The GCF scribe also promised to support next year’s event, stating, “I promise to help with next year’s event organised by Obour Cycling Challenge 2026. As well, next year’s Tour Du Ghana will happen on the Nsawam-Adoagyiri road.”
