Ghana’s Abeku Jackson elected Vice Chair of Africa Aquatics Athletes Commission

Ghana’s swimming talisman, Abeku Jackson, has been elected Vice Chairperson of the Africa Aquatics Athletes Commission, becoming the first Ghanaian swimmer to serve on the continental body.

The announcement was made following a recent Bureau meeting confirming the election of new members for a four-year term. The Commission will be chaired by Marc Pascal Pierre Dansou of Benin, with Holyantsa Rabejaona of Madagascar serving as Secretary.

The Africa Aquatics Athletes Commission represents the interests of African athletes within the continent’s aquatics governance structure. Its responsibilities include ensuring their voices are heard in decision-making, and serving as a platform for advocacy and collaboration across Africa.

Abeku’s election marks another step in his career. The Team Ghana captain recently won five medals (four gold) at the 2025 Africa Aquatics Zone 2 Championships hosted at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra, where Ghana finished with a total of 69 medals.

He has represented Ghana at several international competitions, including the 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games, and made history by ending the country’s long-standing medal drought at the 2023 African Games, where he won silver and bronze.
