Macbones-Tetteh showdown to electrify Legacy Rise, Matchroom mega fight show December 20

The University of Ghana Stadium in Legon is set to explode on December 20 when Seth Gyimah, better known as Freezy Macbones clashes with former national teammate, Jonathan “Worldwide” Tetteh for the WBA Africa light heavyweight title, serving up a highly anticipated and unpredictable bout on the Legacy Rise Sports Promotions hosted show in Accra.

Gyimah and Tetteh were teammates in the national team, Black Bombers at the Boxing Road to Paris 2024 Olympic qualifiers in Saly, Senegal in late 2023, albeit both were unsuccessful at the end of  bid that saw Ghana fail to compete in the fistic sport at the global games for the first time in over two decades.

Gyimah who had already turned pro in the UK back in April 2023, settled down in Ghana and focused on reviving his pro career, racking up 9 straight wins and 9 knockout since a 2-round demolition of Gabriel Adoku at the Bukom Boxing Arena in May 2024. Following his latest victory, blasting out Ibrahim Marshal in round 4 of the scheduled 10 in Aflao at the end of August, two scheduled fights in the UK in October and France in November both fell through at the last minute.

Unlike Gyimah however, Tetteh did also campaign for Paris Olympic qualification at two world qualifying tournaments in Italy and Thailand as well as the Accra 2023 African Games, unsuccessfully though. He joined the paid ranks in August last year, stopping fellow debutant Daniel Addo in two rounds. Tetteh went on to fight seven more times in 2024, winning them all and currently boasts a perfect pro record of 10 wins with 10 knockouts.

The collission between Gyimah and Tetteh perfectly complements a stacked card featuring a host of Ghana’s most promising rising stars in career defining battles on umdercard of “The Showdown: Richards vs Azeez”, presented by Legacy Rise Sports, run by Sharaf Mahama, son of Ghana’s President in collaboration with renowned British promoter Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing as well as boxer Anthony Joshua’s 258 Boxing. The partners are expected to return with an even bigger show with Joshua on the bill early next year, Graphic Sports understands.

Tickets have already started selling on the Legacy Rise Sports official website, https://tickets.legacyriseglobal.com for a night expected to display world-class competitors, emerging African talents, and a dynamic celebration of Ghana’s sporting and cultural heritage, with captivating live entertainment, premium hospitality experiences, and an ambiance befitting one of the continent’s most distinguished sporting events.

Headlined by a light heavyweight cliffhanger between former British champions, Craig  Richards and Dan Azeez at the University stadium on the foot of Accra’s East Legon environs, the all-Ghanaian “war” between two national and continental featherweight champions, 2-time WBO Africa titlist John Abaja Laryea alias Expensive Boxer and Holy “Jaw Breaker” Dorgbetor for the IBF Africa Continental belt previously held by Dorgbetor.

Two unbeaten buddding stars with multiple titles already under their belts, Theophilus Kpakpo Allotey and Sampson Segbedzi, both also face the sternest tests yet against foreign opponents for international titles.

Allotey, just named EMY Africa Sportsman of the year, and recipient of Ghana and UBO Africa super flyweight as well as WBO Africa bantamweight belts, face Asian champ, Jayr Raquinel of Philippines for the WBO Global super flyweight title.

Segbedzi who has spent the past month camping in Canada, is also the national and UBO Africa welterweight champ and comes up against Belgian with Guinean roots, Ibrahim Diallo for the vacant IBF International Super Welterweight strap.

“We are honoured to extend an invitation to the general public, our esteemed partners, and the broader sporting fraternity to attend this landmark occasion— what promises to be a memorable evening of elite boxing, music, and world-class entertainment” Legacy Rise CEO Sharaf Mahama said.
