The National Recreation and Wellness Program (NaRWP) collaborated with NKOO Bright Future Consult to host a successful football gala in Ablekuma in Accra on Saturday, December 6, 2025.
The event featured a thrilling match between Ga West Municipality and Ga Central Municipality, with recreational activities organized by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation adding to the excitement.
Residents of Ablekuma enjoyed various activities, including aerobic sessions, throw-and-win games, as well as traditional games like Oware, Ludo, draught and playing cards.
The event drew prominent personalities, including Hon Emmanuel Tobbin (MP for Anya-Sowutuom), Hon. Sedem Afenyo (MP, Amasaman,), Hon. Betty Krosbi Mensah, Technical Advisor to the Minister of Sports and Recreation), Former Ghana Football Association Vice-President George Afriyie, Traditional chief Nana Kwaku Gyimah,
John Desmond Sowah Nai (Municipal Chief Director, Ga West), Nkoo Joseph (GHALCA Exco Member, among others.
Dr. Betty Krosbi Mensah who is the National Coordinator of NaRWP, expressed her satisfaction with the event, stating that it aligned with the program’s goal of promoting physical and mental well-being through recreation.
NaRWP is a flagship initiative of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, focusing on preventive health through active living.
The program aims to shift Ghana’s focus from professional sports to everyday health and wellness, promoting regular exercise, balanced diets, and routine medical check-ups. By adopting healthy habits, Ghanaians can reduce healthcare costs, improve quality of life, and enhance national productivity.
NaRWP is implemented nationwide, with regional and district representatives ensuring broad participation. The program features a monthly National Recreation Day, offering free health screenings, including blood pressure and sugar level checks.
