Abdul-Karim Zito Kabutey has resigned from his role as Head Coach of Asante Kotoko, the club has announced.
The decision by the former player takes immediate effect, a terse statement from the club on Monday, February 9 said.
“Management has accepted the resignation, expressed its appreciation to the coach for his services and wished him the best for the future,” the statement noted.
The decision comes after a string of poor results, culminating in the 2-4 penalty loss to Aduana FC in the Round of 16 of the 2025/26 MTN FA Cup.
Pressure was mounting on Karim Zito, who took up the reins in similar fashion towards the end of last season when Dr Prosper Narteh Ogum was having a torrid season.
The former Dreams FC coach came in to annex the 2024/25 MTN FA Cup but lost the Ghana Premier League to Bibiani Goldstars.
He superintended 39 games in his less-than-a-year stint, winning 17 and losing 11. He recorded 11 draws, putting his winning percentage of 44.
Assistant Coach Prince Yaw Owusu is expected to take charge of Kotoko’s next league match against arch rivals, Accra Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday.
