To strengthen support and recognition for Ghana’s football legends, representatives of the Retired Footballers Association of Ghana paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
The meeting took place at the Ministry’s conference room and was attended by a delegation led by the association’s president, Mr. James Kuuku Daszie, alongside several distinguished retired footballers who have made notable contributions to Ghana’s football history.
The delegation was warmly received by Hon. Kofi Adams and his team, with the Chief Director of the Ministry, Mrs. Wilhelmina Asamoah, officially welcoming them and expressing optimism about future collaborations.
During the meeting, Mr. Daszie emphasized the importance of fostering a strong partnership between the government and retired footballers to ensure they receive the support and recognition they deserve.
He highlighted Ghana’s glorious football past, mentioning the triumphs in the African Cup of Nations in 1963, 1965, 1978, and 1982 years that cement Ghana’s reputation as a football powerhouse in Africa.
Hon. Kofi Adams acknowledged the vital role played by footballers in shaping Ghana’s sporting legacy. He expressed appreciation for the association’s efforts and assured them of the government’s commitment to improving welfare programs for retired athletes.

The Minister discussed ongoing initiatives aimed at providing post-retirement opportunities, health support, and the establishment of a dedicated Sports Fund intended not only for active sports development but also for the welfare of retired players.
He also announced plans to organize annual commemorative events that honor the contributions of past footballers, emphasizing that their efforts are fundamental to Ghana’s continued prominence in African football.

“The strength of a family is how well it is connected to the old,” Hon. Adams remarked, urging the association to work closely with the Ministry to develop sustainable strategies that honor the past while inspiring future generations.
The Retired Footballers Association of Ghana expressed gratitude for the warm reception and looked forward to a fruitful partnership with the government.
Members of the delegation included Mr. James Kuuku Dadzie, Mr. Willie Kluste, Rev. Osei Kofi, Rev. Kofi Dare, Mr. Mohammed Polo, Mr. Abdul Razak, and Mr. George Alhassan.
This visit marks a significant step toward ensuring that Ghana’s football legends are celebrated and supported, safeguarding their legacy for generations to come.
