Sports Minister sets World Cup final target for Black Stars

The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams has set an ambitious target for the Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, aiming for the team to reach the final in the tournament co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

The West African side, making their fifth World Cup appearance, have been drawn into Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.

After early exits in the 2014 and 2022 editions in Brazil and Qatar, Adams says Ghana is determined to go all the way this summer.

“Our intention is to stay there until the last game. So you have to prepare,” the Buem MP told Citi Sports.

“You don’t get there, and when you are doing well, before you start calling for that to happen, because once you have qualified, you have to plan ahead, and I saw that some people were a bit worried.

“Why do we have to do it? But we are going in there with the mindset that we will stay all the way to the end,” Adams added.

Ghana will kick off their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23, and wrapping up group play against Croatia on June 27.

In preparation, the Black Stars are set to regroup in March for friendly matches against Austria and Germany, with a final warm-up game against Mexico scheduled for May.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed that the team will be based at Bryant University in the United States throughout the tournament.
