Hearts, Kotoko miss out as no Ghanaian team makes top 20 ranked clubs in Africa

Ghanaian champions Hearts of Oak and league leaders Asante Kotoko have failed to make the top 20 club rankings in Africa.

The Ghanaian giants and the rest of the clubs in the country have struggled to make an impact in Africa since Hearts won the Confederation Cup in 2004.

In a list released by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics, Egyptian giants Al Ahly sit top on the lot as North African teams dominate the rankings.

South African sides Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates also make the list.

Meanwhile, the Algerian club that crushed Hearts of Oak out of the CAF Confederation Cup, JS Souara sit 14th in the rankings.

The biggest climbers on the latest ranking is Morocco’s Raja Casablanca who moved from 10th to second position within the week.

The surprise package in the list is Angola’s CD Sagrada Esparanca, joining compatriots Atletico Petro de Luanda.

Here are the rankings of the top 20 clubs in Africa:

  1. Al Ahly
  2. Raja Casablanca
  3. CR Belouizdad
  4. Wydad Casablanca
  5. Pyramids FC
  6. Atletico Petro De Luanda
  7. Zamalek
  8. Mamelodi Sundowns
  9. JS Kabylie
  10. ES Setif
  11. Simba SC
  12. RS Berkane
  13. Orlando Pirates
  14. JS Souara
  15. TP Mazembe
  16. Al Masry
  17. Rivers United
  18. Esperance
  19. Zanaco
  20. GD Sagrada Esparanca
