Prisons, Military join Ghana Professional Boxing League

The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) have confirmed that two security gymnasiums, Military and Prisons to join the next edition of the Ghana Professional Boxing League.

This brings the number of gyms to 14, an expansion on the 12 clubs that competed for honours in last year’s maiden event.

Speaking at the launch of the 2nd edition of the boxing league at the Trust Emporium in Accra, spokesperson of the GBA, Mohammed Amin Lamptey Hussein said, the idea, if well implemented, has the potential to resurrect the sport in the various security agencies.

Ghana Prisons have sent a strong warning to other gyms in the Ghana Professional Boxing League season 2

“Plans are far advanced and barring any hitch, we will bring in the Military and Prisons to join the league. We will use these strategy to renew the passion of the sport in the security agencies because we believe it is a sport they love so much,” he said.

Winners of the first edition, Charles Quartey Memorial Boxing Gym will be expected to lead the way ahead of Panix Gym to secure the bragging rights when the league resumes on March 11 at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra.

Last year’s maiden edition also saw the overall top boxer, Charles Tetteh rewarded with a brand new Renault car by Premium Motors. They promise bigger cars for the incoming best gym and best boxer of 2023.
