Eddie Nketiah could still have a future with Ghana despite an impending England debut.

The Arsenal striker could make his Three Lions debut against Australia in Friday night’s friendly at Wembley.

Nketiah has been named on the bench against the Socceroos, but could feature off the bench.

Chris Houghton remains keen on persuading Nketiah to switch his allegiances

And should he come on for England, he would remain eligible to represent Ghana, though that would be wiped out should he play against Italy next week.

England face Italy in a Euro 2024 qualifier again at Wembley on Tuesday, and with Nketiah now being 24-years-old, that would be his future decided.

However, the country of his parents birth, Ghana, haven’t given up hope quite yet, as their manager Chris Houghton revealed.

The former Brighton and Newcastle manager said: “Some players are very definite about what they want.

“Some are not so sure and some want to see how things develop.

“I think that’s been the case with Eddie.

“We would never say never on him switching to Ghana.

“But it’s always down to what the player wants.”

Arsenal striker Nketiah was called up to England last month, but didn’t feature

Houghton has so far persuaded a number of players to switch to the Black Stars, including London-born Tariq Lamptey and Spain-born Inaki Williams.

Nketiah’s ties to the Three Lions are perhaps stronger, though, having played for every age group.

He is also the all-time top scorer for the Under-21s with 16 goals in 17 games.
