Baffour Gyan, brother of former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan, has expressed the family’s contentment with the recent High Court ruling in the divorce case between Asamoah Gyan and Sandra Gifty Gyamesi.

In a radio interview on Asempa FM, Baffour Gyan shared their perspective on the court’s decision, emphasising that it was largely in Asamoah Gyan’s favour.

According to Baffour Gyan, the court granted Asamoah Gyan’s wish for the annulment of his marriage to Gifty. The family was thrilled with the outcome, citing revelations about Gifty’s prior marriage to another man, unbeknownst to them, as a key factor behind Gyan’s decision to seek a divorce and request a DNA test to confirm the paternity of his children.

During an interview on Asempa FM, Baffour revealed that they discovered Gifty, Gyan’s ex-wife, was already married to another man, which prompted Gyan to take the matter to court, seeking a divorce and requesting a DNA test to verify the paternity of his children. He clarified that the properties seemingly awarded to Gifty by the court were gifts that Asamoah Gyan had registered in her name during their relationship.

Moreover, the monthly stipend of GHC 25,000 is intended for Gyan’s children, not his ex-wife. Baffour emphasized that Gyan is willing to pay more for child support, as the DNA test has confirmed the paternity of all three children. The court initially rejected Gifty’s excessive alimony requests, including $1 million, in light of the annulment of their marriage.

The initial reports suggesting that Gyan would provide Gifty with a four-bedroom house in Spintex, a mansion in the United Kingdom, a land parcel designated for a filling station, and two cars were explained by Baffour Gyan. He clarified that these properties were gifts registered in Gifty’s name by Asamoah Gyan during their relationship.

Gyan, Ghana’s all-time leading scorer with 51 goals, and the record African scorer in World Cup history with six goals, announced his retirement from football in June.
