The African sports press association AIPS Africa, wishes to express its astonishment and disapproval of the press accreditation of people outside the press circle.
AIPS reminds the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) that press accreditation is strictly reserved for duly identified professional journalists attached to a media outlet and freelancers.
CODE OF ETHICS
Excluded from this category are all individuals (YouTubers, influencers, facebook users, publicists, lobbyists, etc.) who do not provide journalistic work and who are not bound by the profession’s code of ethics of the trade.
AIPS Africa considers it inconceivable that people outside the profession should have access to the same work areas (Media Center, mixed zone, press box, training stadiums, etc.) as professional journalists.
CONFUSION
In some places, it is now becoming difficult for journalists to work.
Finally, AIPS Africa would like to remind you that professional journalists provide information where others are looking for buzz, which creates confusion between these “intruders” and professional journalists, especially during press conferences.
Therefore, far from interfering in CAF’s management of the tournament, AIPS Africa calls on the pan-African body to guarantee the best working conditions for professional journalists accredited for the tournament. This requirement requires respect for journalists and the profession they carry out and the relationship they may have with the players in the competition.
AIPS Africa congratulates CAF and COCAN for the efforts made towards the success of this great event and hopes that they will take all measures to regularize the situation.
