Countdown to 2024 Paris Olympics: Mozambique’s Gramane out of Games

In a surprising turn of events, two-time Africa middleweight champion Rady Gramane of Mozambique will not participate in the Paris Olympic Games.

Gramane and compatriot, Tiago Muxanga, were among the five African boxers who received wild cards under the universality quota but her name has been struck off the list.

Commenting on the issue, Gramane said: “I don’t know why they’ve removed me but they said I was out, honestly, I don’t know how to explain it.”

Mozambique Boxing Federation President, Gabriel Jr, was at a loss on why the IOC Tripartite Commission, have removed Gramane.

“I can’t understand,” is all Gabriel Jr said when his comment was sought.

With Gramane out, Africa will now be represented by 24 boxers in the Paris Olympics. The remaining four African boxers who are beneficiaries of the wild card are Ivanusa Moreira, Margret Tembo, Fatoumata Camara and Tiago Muxanga.
