Manchester City star Benjamin Mendy to remain in police custody until trial in January

Benjamin Mendy is to remain in police custody until at least November 15.

The Manchester City footballer appeared before Chester Crown Court on Friday, after being charged with rape and sexual assault.

27-year old Mendy faces four counts of rape, three of which are alleged to have taken place during October of 2020. A further offence is claimed to have occurred in August of this year.

The incidents relate to three different women, all aged over 16.

Mendy’s co-defendant Louis Saha Matturie is charged with four counts of rape.

A trial date has been set for January 24, 2022. Both men have been remanded in custody until then.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said, “The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has authorised Cheshire Constabulary to charge a second man in connection with allegations of sexual assault.

“Louis Saha Matturie, aged 40, has been charged with four counts of rape.

“The charges relate to three complainants over the age of 16 and are alleged to have taken place between April 2021 and August 2021.

“Matturie, of Eccles, has been remanded in custody.”

Mendy was arrested on August 26, and was immediately suspended by his club Manchester City.

“I will adjourn your case for trial for the week commencing January 24, next year,” His Honour Judge Everett said.

“I expect it to last two-and-a-half weeks.

“Both of you will be required to attend that case in person.

“Meanwhile you both remain in custody.”
