Ghana Boxing legend Azumah Nelson has threatened to ask for his name to be taken off the Kaneshie Sports Complex due to its deplorable state.
Current minister of Youth and Sports Mahama Ayariga promised to commit GH¢1 million of his Ministry’s resources to the refurbishment of the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex.
But the legendary boxer said the sorry state of the Complex does not befit a national edifice bearing the name of a respected former world boxing champion.
“If you respect somebody and you think that the person has achieved a lot, you don’t name such a place after him,” Azumah told TV3’s New Day.
Formerly known as the Kaneshie Sports Complex, the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex was built in the 1970s to contribute to the production of sportsmen and women for the country.
It is a multi-sports facility that can host a wide range of indoor disciplines.
