Ghana midfielder Andre Ayew says changes in the coaching staff of the Black Stars affected the team during qualifiers for the AFCON in Equatorial Guinea.
World Cup coach Kwasi Appiah was axed by the Ghana Football Association with his assistant Maxwell Konadu ,seeing the team through the rest of the qualification series that was punctuated with inconsistent performances from the team.
“It is true that during the qualifiers we were not at the top. We passed through with experience and with great composure, but it was not easy. This is because of the changes in coaches. But we’ll see.”
Ayew also picked Senegal as the team to watch in a tight group C that also includes Algeria and South Africa. With several of their contingent either playing in France of born in the country,Ayew is in a good position to assess the threat the Teranga Lions pose.
“The pundits speak much of Algeria, but I think it will be more careful in Senegal we meet in the first match,” Ayew said in an interview.
Andre recently returned to first team action for the French league leaders, scoring in a 3-1 over Metz.
