Ghana Olympic Committee to organise seminar on Autonomy of Sports Federations

richThe Ghana Olympic Committee is set to organise a Seminar on “Good Governance- the Question of the Autonomy of Sports Federations and the Ghana Olympic Committee,” at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium on Monday, 14th December 2015 from 10:00am to 2:00pm.

Over the last couple of years, the question of autonomy of sports federations has become very topical and we believe it is very important to bring together all stakeholders including the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the National Sports Authority, National Sports Federations and the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) to discuss the issue.

The forum will provide all stakeholders an opportunity to state their views on the matter, but more importantly, it offers an opportunity to discuss and better understand the role of each stakeholder and how we should collaborate to work together towards the development of sports in Ghana.

The Director General of the National Sports Authority, Mr. Joe Kpenge is expected to address the gathering on the topic: “The role of the National Sports Authority in the governance of national federations and its implications.”

The Secretary General of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Richard Akpokavie, will also make a presentation on the topic: “The understanding of autonomy of national sports federations from the Olympic perspective.”
