It’s official, Real Madrid have got their hands on highly sought-after French youngster Eduardo Camavinga. The midfielder joins from Rennesfor around 30 million euros.
While all eyes were on Paris, Florentino Perezhas sprung a surprise by bringing in another of the top players in Ligue 1, one who the club have actually been tracking for some time.
The 18-year-old, who is already a full international with France, has signed a contract with Los Blancos until June 2027. His arrival is a boost to Real Madrid’s midfield, an area Carlo Ancelottiwas keen to strengthen in.
Camavinga’s Rennes contract was due to expire in June 2022 and as a free agent he was certain to have a long queue of suitors, but Real Madridhave stolen a match on the competition and secured him now.
Undoubtedly one of the top under-20 players in Europe, Camavingais a real coup and could prove an important player for years to come. It had looked in recent days that he might be on his way to Paris Saint-Germain, but Madrid is his destination on deadline day.
He will now compete for a place in Ancelotti’s midfield, along with Casemiro, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Isco, Fede Valverde, Dani Ceballos and perhaps Marcos Asensio, if he continues his conversion to a central midfielder. Then there’s the academy graduate Antonio Blancoas well.
Camavinga might be young but he has top level experience already and will be looking for minutes straight away. He has 70 Ligue 1 appearances under his belt across four seasons and a total of 100 professional club appearances.
Born in a refugee camp in Angola, Camavinga arrived in France aged two and has gone on to become the country’s youngest ever national team player and goalscorer.
