Bundesliga II side St. Pauli have recalled striker Daniel-Kofi Kyereh from Ghana’s squad ahead of their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa on Monday, 6 September 2021.
Clubs in Germany and other European countries have refused to allow their players travel to COVID-19 red listed countries like South Africa.
Kyereh would need to quarantine for ten days on his return from the Rainbow nation and they could miss several league matches.
The Black Stars newcomer was seeking to increase his international caps after debuting last Friday in the 1-0 win over Ethiopia in their Group opener.
The 25-year-old replaced injured Jeffrey Schlupp in the 28th minute at the Cape Coast Stadium.
His withdrawal from Ghana’s squad means a total of seven players were not released by their clubs for the second Group G qualifier.
England based quintet, Daniel Amartey (Leicester City), Jeffrey Schlupp (Leicester City), Jordan Ayew (Crystal Palace), Andrew Yiadom (Reading FC) and Baba Abdul Rahman (Reading FC) were not part of the contingent.
Rennes winger Kamal Deen Sulemana was also recalled by his French Ligue 1 out.
