Politician and former member of Parliament for Tema East, Daniel Nii Titus-Glover has warned the Ghana FA against the sacking of CK Akonnor as the Black Stars head coach.
There were reports in the local media that, the leadership of the Ghana FA will vote to dismiss CK Akonnor as the head coach of the Ghana male senior national team in a meeting on Friday, September 10, 2021.
The reports were that, the Ghana FA feared maintaining CK Akonnor as the head coach of the Black Stars will result in the national team missing out on the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
And Titus Glover who is a former deputy Transport Minister has dared the Ghana Football Association to, as has been widely rumoured, sack C.K. Akonnor whose contract expires early next year.
“I have heard that the GFA will hold a meeting tomorrow (Friday) and they want to sack C.K. Akonnor. We are daring them,” he fumed on Oman FM
“Kurt, we are daring you! We are daring him. The future of the Black Stars is linked to the NPP. We want the Black Stars to progress.
“Those of you imposing players on him (C.K. Akonnor), those who are not giving him time and space to do his work should stop immediately.”
In a related development, another well known sympathiser of the Ghana President, Hopeson Adorye who is a leading member of the governing NPP and leader of the pro-government group, FIXING GHANA MOVEMENT, has confidently stated on the same pro-NPP radio that Coach Akonnor is 100% staying on as national team manager.
“C.K. Akonnor is a Ghanaian coach and the President isn’t interested in any foreigner to head the national team. The President is solidly behind C.K. Akonnor and no one can touch him,” he told Oman FM.
“If GFA think they are autonomous they should pay salary arrears owed to C.K. Akonnor,” he challenged.
“Why did you (GFA) present budget to government for such huge amount of money for the Black Stars’ 2022 World Cup qualifying games? Where is the official vehicle assigned to the head coach CK? We know the person using that vehicle and boasting around,” Hon. Adorye continued.
“GFA will not be allowed to sacrifice and bury him after pre-negotiating fixed matches and dubious players call ups. You can’t impose yourself on coach Akonnor because we know your colours within the GFA set up.
“If GFA make any decision to sack C.K. Akonnor, everybody else will follow because Ghana is bigger than GFA”.
