Goalkeeper Felix Annan unsure of his next move after leaving Kotoko

Goalkeeper Felix Annan says he is not sure of his next move after announcing his exit from Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko.

Kotoko and Annan reached an agreement for the termination of the goalkeeper’s contract, which was due to expire in December 2021.

The decision brings to an end Annan’s association with Kotoko which started in 2011 when he joined them from Gomoa Fetteh Feyenoord Academy. Annan joined Kotoko at 16 years and leaves as captain.

“It’s been 10 years of success, love, dedication and ambition. For whatever that has happened in the last two years, I don’t want to talk about it because no matter what it is, for me it is past and gone. Me leaving has got nothing to do with anything, I just want to move on and have another adventure,” Annan told 3Sports.

“I am still a professional player and will see what the future holds but for now, I can’t confirm anything. There have been a lot of offers. I am someone who always wants to give 200% best and I play with my heart so emotionally, I just have to get over everything and try to get back to my normal self so I can exhibit whatever that I need to give to people who are watching and supporting. I need to revive myself and come back very big.”

“A couple of seasons ago I was on top. Last season, my stats in games have not been good. I did not play much last season but we are in discussions with a lot of people, gathering what they are bringing on board locally or abroad. It’s all about me, if where I am going to play will make me happy, my family happy then I will move there so we will see what the future holds.”

“I can’t even tell you where I am going now, I just have to relax. It hasn’t been easy for me and I have to be very frank. Mentally, emotionally after the season, I have gone through a lot and I just want to use this opportunity to thank so many people. If it wasn’t for my family, my wife and a lot of people who contacted me to calm me down. My mental issues were getting worse but I just have to move on,” he added.

Annan admits the last few years have been difficult for him. He lost his position in the starting line-up and ended up as the third-choice goalkeeper.

“There is nothing personal with any management team, coach or technical. It was all about my emotions and my mental health so I just felt it was time for me to move on no matter how it was going to be I had to move elsewhere. I have never had issues with any management or board member(s). That was why I was able to spend about 10 years in Kotoko. I was not someone who was giving my best because of a coach, management or playing for a board member,” he said.

The 26-year-old won three Ghana Premier League titles and MTN FA Cup twice at Kotoko.
