11 year old Amoako Philip Selikem Yao wins silver medal in 2021 African Youth Chess Championships

11-year-old Amoako Philip Selikem Yao won Ghana’s first medal when he finished second in the just ended 2021 African Youth Chess Championships with 7.5 points.

Master Selikem walked home not only with the silver medal but also a Candidate Master (CM) title making him Ghana’s youngest titled chess player.

Egypt’s CM Mena Martin (in the middle with trophy) won the category finishing a point ahead of Selikem Amoako.  

Amoako Philip Selikem (front row, 2nd from left) placed 2nd in the group earning him a silver medal.

Wael Sabry Mina (front row, 2nd from right), also from Egypt took home the bronze medal in the category as he finished with 6 points.

9-Round Under-12 category final ranking of the 2021 African Youth Chess Championships

 

The continental chess tournament which took place from the 17th to the 15th of September 2021 at the Best Western Plus Accra Beach Hotel saw the participation of over 170 children from 11 countries.
