Mr. Joseph Agbeko, the famed organiser of the Ayawaso cards competition gala, has made a passionate appeal to corporate entities and other companies to sponsor this year’s card playing competition.
The competition, slated for October 10 at House Party Computers at New Town in Accra, will also attract the MP for Ayawaso North, Yussif Jajah; MP for Ayawaso East, Toure Mark Naizer, and the NDC parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso Central, Abdul Rauf Tubazu.
The organiser told the Graphic Sports Online that his outfit was struggling to find sponsors for the event and had appealed to the Accra Breweries Limited (ABL) and MTN Ghana to help sponsor the event.
“I am appealing to these corporate entities to help sponsor the event and also receive the needed mileage they can derive from the sport,” he noted.
Purpose
The competition was held on a low-key last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and was won by the Last Page Card Club from Pig Farm in Accra.
“Playing cards is about quick and fast thinking, how to think on your feet and bring solutions to bear on a messy situation. It is good for our health, mental and physical wellbeing, as well as for national development,” Mr Agbeko told the Daily Graphic in an interview.
Appeal for support
He appealed to corporate bodies and individuals to support the competition and help it grow to become an Olympic sport.
The participating clubs are Last Page, All Friends, Zain Professionals, Asase J United, Mighty Warriors, all from Ayawaso Central. From Ayawaso North are Four Killers, Japan Stars, Bafana Bafana and Lion Heart.
Clubs representing East Ayawaso are Samosa Stars, Poly Tank, Invisible Masters and African Fighters.
According to Mr Agbeko, registration is currently ongoing for new clubs to register not later than October 4.
