The President of Squash Federation of Africa, Dr Lucky Mlilo (ZIM), paid a courtesy call on the Director General of National Sports Authority, Prof Peter Twumasi, as part of his five-day visit to Ghana.
He was accompanied by Ghana’s President for Squash Association, Rev Richmond Quarcoo, who doubles as Secretary General of the African Squash Federation with its secretariat currently relocated to Ghana.
Mr Mlilo, among other things, is to negotiate Ghana’s sports authorities to include Squash discipline among the number of disciplines slated for the Accra 2023 African Games and also to visit the Secretariat of the continental body in Ghana for the first time.
He thanked the Government of Ghana for hosting the Secretariat which is the first time it has been relocated to Ghana.
He pledged his support for Ghana in the development of the sport at the grassroots level to professional level. He is expected to play several ceremonial games across the country.
The DG assured him of Ghana’s support to effectively run the Secretariat, and assured him that his request will be forwarded to the Sector Minister, Hon Mustapha Ussif, and was hopeful that it would receive positive response considering the minimal cost of squash competitions.
Present for the meeting were Deputy Director General (Technical), Mr Kwame Amponfi Jnr and other Heads of Department.
