Jonah Attuquaye scored in the second half as Legon Cities beat King Faisal 1-0 at the Elwak Sports stadium to end the first half of the season on a high.
Attuquaye came close in the 16th but his effort hit the outside of the post before coming back into play. The forward went round King Faisal goalkeeper Frank Boateng before shooting on target but the ball came back into play after hitting the outside of the post much to the relief of the King Faisal bench.
Both teams looked lively from then on – but Legon Cities looked the hungrier of the two as they kept searching for the opener.
Jonah Attuquaye found the much needed goal inside 62nd minutes after getting on the end of Hans Kwofie’s cross to slot home from close range – his fourth of the campaign.
The win has moved the Royals out of the relegation zone as they jump from 15th to the 12th position with 21 points.
Legon Cities who have lost one match in their last five outings will welcome Champions Accra Hearts of Oak to the Elwak Stadium when the second round resumes on Sunday, February 27, 2022.
King Faisal ended the first round in 5th place with 26 points and will play away to WAFA on Friday, February 25, 2022.
