Tema Youth Basketball Club picked up their first win of the 2022 Accra Basketball League (ABL) Men’s Division I Season Saturday as they got their season underway.
The team took a five point (52-47) win over Ghana Fire Service earlier today at the Prisons Court in Cantonments to get the
new campaign off to a winning start. It was the second Men’s Division I game played on the day.
Match Report:
Emmanuel Ocquaye opened the quarter with a personal 6-0 run for Fire Service. Moses Abu drained a jumper and Kwame Boamah Djan pulled off a spin move to score a layup for Tema Youth.
With 3:42 minutes to play Fire trailed 9-10. Gilbert Woode scored a beautiful layup; Abdul Bashiru blocked Djan’s dunk attempt to end the quarter as Fire led 17-15.
Roland Ankomah and Clement Tetteh traded baskets to open the second quarter. Tetteh then traded three pointers with Prince Gyamfi of Tema Youth. Both teams missed shots to conclude the quarter; Fire led 26-24 at half time.
David Laryea scored three points to open the third quarter. Marco Mensah hit a jumper in response for Tema and Abu gathered an offensive rebound to score. Woode set up Dennis Dugbennu for an easy layup.
Bright Yeboah added on for Fire Service. Abu scored a tough shot to tie the game at 30. Sassou Eloge and Mensah scored to put Tema up 37-35. Gyamfi put Tema up by a point and Abu’s three pointer gave Tema a 41-37 third quarter lead.
Patrick Junior scored for Fire off the bench but Abu’s back to back jumpers put Tema up 47-40. Bashiru ended Team’s brief scoring run with a jump shot.
Ankomah was given too much space to score a three pointer in response. Tema led 50-42 with 2:25 left to play. A late three pointer from Laryea wasn’t enough to get Fire level as the game ended in a 47-52 loss for Fire.
