We played well but couldn’t convert our chances – Satellites coach Zito reacts to Indonesia loss

Black Satellites coach Abdul Karim Zito has spoken in defence of his Black Satellites team after the national men’s U-20 team lost its second match at the Maurice Revello tournament in Marseille, France.

The Satellites who were stunned 1-0 by minnows Indonesia earlier today and are rooted to the bottom of Group B with no goals after two matches.

The team also lost its first match to Mexico by the same one-goal margin.

Speaking in an interview after the latest disappointment, Zito said his team were unlucky because they dominated possession against the Indonesians.

He said the least the Ghanaians deserved from the game was a draw, adding that he was worried that the crop of talented U-20 players would be discarded over their failure to get results.

He also stated that he couldn’t be blamed for the failure of the team to convert its chances because he devised a strategy to create many chances.

“When you look at today, we (Satellites) created all the chances, that is what I call the injustice of football,” a defensive Zito said.

“Now, everybody who was not here would say (blame) the coach, my side had so many chances, putting the ball in the back of the net is (about) the player not me.

“Everybody saw that in terms of play, Ghana was high but in terms of scoring Ghana was low, I am very disappointed. I wasn’t disappointed against Mexico but I am disappointed against Indonesia because at least, we should have drawn the game”.
