Rio Ferdinand has said that Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is having a fine season, but believes he’s still not as good as Man United’s Casemiro.
Partey put in another fine performance for the Gunners as they saw off Tottenham yesterday. He dominated the midfield alongside Xhaka.
The Ghanaian very nearly scored one of the goals of the season as well. His vicious volley hit the post and it would have capped off another great display.
However, while Ferdinand admitted Partey is doing well, he believes the Arsenal man wouldn’t be having the same impact at Manchester United.
“The pass for Saka and then the one round the corner before the Odegaard goal. He’s actually playing some passes I didn’t know he had. At Atletico, did you see these passes?,” Ferdinand said on his FIVE YouTube show.
Ferdinand, though, wouldn’t go as far as saying he’s better than Man United midfielder, Casemiro.
I don’t think Partey is good enough defensively to do what Casemiro does. I don’t think he has the impact Casemiro does for Man United.”
Partey could well end up having the last laugh over Casemiro and United though. The Gunners are clear and away in the title race, with only a disastrous second half of the season stopping them.
Partey and Casemiro equally brilliant
Both these players are top defensive midfielders and Ferdinand was always going to lean towards the United man.
Casemiro has been game-changing for United. However, Partey is instrumental for Arsenal and him being fit is absolutely crucial to the Gunners succeeding.
The debate about who is better is probably hard to answer. Casemiro has transformed United but Partey is integral.
Either way, both are fine players. And come the end of the season, both might be in the team of the year.
