Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah alongside Fikayo Tomori were dropped from the Three Lions of England squad to face Italy in the Euro 2024 qualifiers today (Tuesday).
Nketiah recently made his senior debut for England in an international friendly against Australia.
However, hopes of a first competitive appearance for the Three Lions was quashed as he left out of the squad to play the European champions.
This decision marks the end of Nketiah’s international assignment with the England national team in October.
The 24-year-old was initially left out by England coach Southgate in the previous international window for games against Scotland and Ukraine.
However, this latest development could serve as boost to Ghana’s pursuit of Nkekiah as he is yet to feature in a competitive game for England.
The West African country have not hidden their desire to have the Gunners striker in the Black Stars squad.
This season he has scored two goals in eight league appearances for Mikel Arteta’s side.
It remains to be seen if Ghana will be lucky enough to convince Nketiah to turn out for the four-time AFCON winners, especially as they prepare for the 2023 AFCON and 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
