The WBA Future program kicked off its 2024 season with events in Panama, Venezuela and Colombia, where dozens of amateur and professional fighters had the opportunity to see action in competitive bouts that were broadcast live on the official YouTube channel of the World Boxing Association (WBA).
Panama was the first to hold an evening of this program in 2024 with the event held last February 3 at the Cinta Costera of the country’s capital. Dozens of children and teenagers climbed into the ring and had a great window in a broadcast that was seen around the world.
Last Saturday it was the turn of Venezuela and Colombia, who had professional events with the presence of the best young talent of each country. Venezuela opened in the afternoon with an event held at the Centro Recreacional Yesterday, in Turmero, Aragua state, and in which Gregory Vera was the star by defeating Ronaldo Chacón by unanimous decision in the most outstanding fight of the day.
In the second round, Colombia held an evening at the Elías Chegwin Coliseum, in Barranquilla, in which a Fedelatin Female title was disputed and ended in the hands of Paulina Ángel. Other young talents such as Albeiro Paredes and Rodolfo Puentes stood out and became regional champions of the organization thanks to their victories.
This program aims to give activity and visibility to young fighters from different countries and provide them with spaces in which they can develop their careers with the help of local promoters.
WBA Future plans to continue to hold recurring events in these three countries and will soon announce more events in Argentina, Andorra and Guinea in an effort to expand the project worldwide.
