Reigning Ghana Women’s Premier League champions, Hasaacas Ladies, are set to make a return to the WAFU Zone B qualifiers for a spot at the 2024/25 CAF Women’s Champions League after the draw was held yesterday in Cairo.
The draw pitted Ghana’s champions against Edo Queens of Nigeria, Omnisports Etincelle of Burkina Faso and AS Garde National of Niger in Group B.
Group A consists of FC Inter D’Abidjan of Cote d’Ivoire, AS GNN of Benin and Ainonvi FC of Togo.
Hasaacas Ladies qualified for the competition after lifting the 2023/24 Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League trophy at the expense of rivals Ampem Darkoa Ladies.
They will open their campaign against Omnisports Entincelle on August 11 before facing Edo Queens and AS Garde National on August 14 and 18, respectively.
This will be the second time that the ‘Hasmal Ladies’ will represent Ghana, having participated in the maiden edition which saw them taking part in the inaugural continental club championship in Cairo in November 2021.
The Ghanaians came close to writing their names on the virgin trophy in 2021 but lost the title to South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns after losing 2-1 in the final after surviving four matches right from the group stage.
Hasaacas Ladies also missed the chance to make a second appearance at the competition after losing the 2022/23 Women’s Premier League title to Ampem Darkoa Ladies, who went on to emerge winners of the qualifiers in Nigeria.
This earned Ampem Darkoa a place in the CAF Women’s Champions league staged in Cote d’Ivoire in November last year, where they finished in fourth place.
The WAFU B qualifiers will commence on August 10 in Abidjan with the final set to be played on August 23, 2024.
