Ghanaian forward, Henry Addo, popularly known as ‘Nana Addo,’ showcased his goal-scoring prowess by netting the first two goals in Maccabi Tel Aviv’s 5-1 triumph over Serbian side Backa Tobola in yesterday’s Europa League playoff match.
The 21-year-old winger was instrumental in the Israeli Premier League club’s commanding away performance, setting the tone for the rest of the game with his early strikes.
Henry Addo’s journey to this point has been nothing short of remarkable. He first gained national attention in Ghana during his time at Kumasi High School, where he played a key role in securing the school’s first Ashanti Region School boys’ soccer competition title in over two decades, ending a 22-year drought in 2019. He and the likes of Christian Agyenim Boateng ‘Benteke’ (Heart of Lions) and David Gyamfi ‘King’ formerly of Tema Youth FC.
His standout performances earned him a move to Slovakian SuperLiga side, MSK Zilina, where he further honed his skills before making a €1 million transfer to Maccabi Tel Aviv in February 2024.
Before joining the main team, Addo joined Zilina Africa, a Ghanaian football club affiliated to the Slovak Superliga club in Accra
Addo’s football roots trace back to Kumasi Suame, where he began his career at the local colts club, Ebony Babies F.C. This club also produced notable talents currently playing in the Ghana Premier League including Kelvin Osei Asibey ‘Mosquito’ (Hearts of Oak), Albert Yeboah ‘Dybala’ (Legon Cities), Samuel Tenedu (Asante Kotoko), and Seidu Mohammed ‘Aligator’ (Berekum Chelsea).
Henry Addo’s recent performance in the Europa League has further cemented his reputation as one of Ghana’s most promising young footballers, with many expecting him to continue his rise on the European stage.
