2022 World Cup Qualifiers: Ghanaian defender Kennedy Boateng joins Togo national team

Ghanaian defender Kennedy Kofi Boateng has earned an invitation to the Togolese national team ahead of the 2022 World Cup qualifications this week.

Boateng, born and raised in Ghana qualifies to represent Togo through his parental lineage.

The 24-year-old centre-back has a Ghanaian father and a Togolese mother.

Boateng had his development at Ghanaian side WAFA SC before moving abroad in August 2016 to sign for Austrian Bundesliga side LASK Linz.

He enjoyed loan spells at SV Ried between 2017 and 2019 before joining them permanently.

Boateng currently plies his trade at Portuguese Primera Liga club SD Santa Clara where he has made 9 appearances in all competitions including UEFA Europa League qualifications.

The lanky defender joined the Togolese camp on Monday despite not named in the initial list released by head coach Paulo Duarte.

The Sparrowhawks will take on Senegal at home on 11 November 2022 before facing Namibia four days later in the final round of the qualifiers.
