New Ghana striker Inaki Williams scores in Bilbao big win but injured for first time since 2016

Inaki Williams suffered his first injury since 2016 on Monday evening when he was forced off during Athletic Bilbao’s comprehensive 4-0 La Liga victory over Cadiz.

The new Ghana striker opened the scoring and then missed a penalty, but couldn’t complete the match because of injury. He was substituted in the 54th minute.

The 28-year-old holds the record for most consecutive games played in La Liga with going over  six years without missing a game, having avoided injury and suspension.

Monday’s injury means his record could end at 236 games if he doesn’t play on Sunday against Espanyol.

Williams will be hoping to recover in time to feature against Espanyol and extend his astonishing record.

The former Spain international in June declared that he would play for Ghana and is could be invited for the first time next month.

Ghana will play Nicaragua and Brazil in pre-World Cup friendlies in September.
