Stephen Appiah officially retires from football

Former Black Stars captain Stephen Leroy Appiah will officially announce his retirement from active football on Wednesday.Appiahs

The former Juventus and Fenerbahce star has been without a club since the end of a short stint with Vojvodina of Serbia two years ago after struggling with knee problems.

He had recently stated in an interview that he would make a pronouncement on his career and it seems he has chosen to walk away from the sport after a career spanning two years.

Appiah was a part of the technical team of the Black Stars in Brazil during the world after captaining the team to it’s first ever world cup appearance in 2006 and a quarter final appearance in 2010.

A strong, skillful player, Appiah’s versatility and technical ability meant he could play both as a midfield anchor and also as a roving playmaker.

Allsports.com.gh understands that Appiah will now concentrate on charity work through his newly established Stephen Appiah Foundation.

The foundation, under new management  replaces the now defunct StepApp Foundation .
