Playing football in war torn Ukraine – Ghana born Niger star Daniel Sosah

Daniel Sosah is a professional footballer who plays for Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih. He was born in Ghana, he plays for the Niger national team.

His father is a Ghanaian while his mother comes from Benin.

Daniel started his colts football in Accra with Katara Babies and All Yankees before joining Third World and Noble Arrics, then he tried other top level clubs taking him to different countries like Israel, Belarus and now Ukraine.

He has played for Maccabi Netanya and Beitar Nes Tubruk as a youth.

At senior level he was at AS FAN, CI Kamsar, Isloch Minsk Raion and now Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih.

He said the experience in of war and football and sports is very interesting because the people are strong hearted and very determined to succeed like Oleksandr Usyk who defeated Tyson Fury and well known Lomachenko. Ukraine boasts of other sports stars.

Daniel Sosah said his daring spirit has taken him to where he is and hopes to move to as a professional footballer aiming to become better always.

He was a member of the Niger football team that beat the Ghana Black Stars at the Accra Sports Stadium to deprive Ghana a chanceĀ  feature at the 2025 African Cup of Nations in Morocco.

He recalls being left out of the Ghana U23 National team due to financial constraints, so when the opportunity came to play for Niger he grabbed it and felt very happy when they beat the Black Stars in front of their own fans.

He commended the Nigerien supporters who were at the stadium and really enjoyed the game.

He advised that selection of players to national teams should be based on merit and not favouritism.

He wished African football officials, players, coaches, fans and the media a happy new year.
