Tug of war: Liverpool, Leverkusen chase Ghanaian wonderkid Abdul Issahaku

Two European giants – Liverpool and Bayern 04 Leverkusen are pulling against each other from the opposite end for the signature of young, but talented Ghanaian footballer, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku.

The Steadfast FC midfielder has build a very huge resume for himself over the past five months having captained the Ghana U-17 team at the WAFU B tournament, being part of the Ghana U-20 team that won the Africa Youth Championship, and earning a call-up into the Black Stars.

The trademark goal scorer was voted the overall Player of the tournament at the AFCON U-20 tournament where his two goals became a subject of discussion throughout the entire competition and subsequently earned him nomination for Best goal of the tournament.

After the tournament, his club [Steadfast] confirmed that the midfield prodigy is being chased by many football clubs in Europe including Liverpool, Bayern 04 Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, Ajax Amsterdam, FC Basel, Udinese, Red Bull Salzburg, amongst others.

But, it seems Liverpool and Leverkusen are emerging as the top likely destinations for the Ghanaian.

The player is currently in Germany to complete a sponsorship deal with Nike and it’s understood that Leverkusen are using all means available to get his signature before he leaves.

According to www.sports24ghana.com checks in Germany, Leverkusen have proposed an initial £2 million offer for the 17-year-old Ghanaian and willing to offer more should the need be.

Liverpool though interested, is most unlikely to sign Issahaku on permanent basis due to the post-Brexit rules which do not allow British clubs to sign players under the age of 18.
