English-born Ghanaian defender Jerome Opoku joins Danish side Vejle BK

English-born Ghanaian defender Jerome Opoku has officially joined Vejle BK on a season-long loan deal from English Championship side Fulham FC.

The 20-year-old arrived in Denmark earlier today to undergo a mandatory medical examination to finalize his loan switch to the Vejle Stadium outfit.

The club’s official statement reads “Vejle Boldklub has today agreed with the Championship club and the relegated players from Fulham FC regarding a lease agreement regarding the talented 22-year-old defender, Jerome Opoku, for the upcoming season in the 3F Superligaen.”

Opoku spent last season on loan at English League One side Plymouth Argyle where he made 38 appearances with a goal to credit.

He was born to Ghanaian parents in England which makes him eligible to represent Ghana at any level.

“I believe I can contribute here. The club has good facilities and a clear game philosophy. Both appeal to me a lot. I will let my coaching team judge my potential, but I am clear and ambitious on my own behalf,” Opoku told the club’s official after sealing a loan move.

“Vejle Boldklub is a club that has previously shown that it can release young players in its strong and competitive environment, and that reputation has also been a driving force in my choice. I look forward to pulling the red beautiful jersey over my head and fighting for a position and value here in Vejle Boldklub”

Opoku was previously handed invitation to the senior national team of Ghana for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations double-header qualifiers against South Africa and Sao Tome.

He failed to represent the West African country due to the COVID-19 traveling ban imposed by the UK government.
