‘We have to be more dangerous’ – Coach Broos warns Bafana after Zimbabwe draw

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos insists that his players will have to grab their goal-scoring opportunities in future to win games after suffering a goalless draw against Zimbabwe in their opening 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cupqualifier.

A relatively new-look South Africa national side claimed a hard-fought point in their quest for next year’s tournament in the Middle East.

However, Zimbabwe’s goalkeeper Talbert Shumba made three fantastic saves to ensure the home side keep a clean sheet.

“First of all, I am happy about the mentality, and I think the players showed mentality today, and it was good for me to see,” Broos told reporters after the match on Friday.

“Defensively, I think it was alright as we didn’t give away many chances to Zimbabwe, so I am happy about that.

“On the other side, you have to score to win games, and today it was not so good offensively.

“I think we have to work on that in the next weeks or the next months because for winning, you have to score, and that was a problem for us today,” Broos continued.

“I saw a lot of things that we worked on this week, and for that, I am very happy that players are listening and that they are trying to do what we asked.

“Certainly, again, the offensive game of our team, we have to be more dangerous. Those are things we have to work on. We’ll need some time to do that.”

Bafana Bafana will next entertain Ghana at FNB Stadium in their next Group G match on Monday.
