The Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Mahama Ayariga together with authorities from the University of Education, Winneba paid a working visit to the National Sports College, Winneba last Friday, July 18, 2014 to inspect facilities of the college and also find out how the two institutions can collaborate for success.
The Hon. Minister indicated that facilities at the Sports College were under-utilized hence the need to organize regular sporting competitions to unearth talents and also use some of the proceeds for routine maintenance.
The Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Professor Akwesi Asabre Ameyaw disclosed that his outfit was prepared to partner with the National Sports College in order to put the college into functional use.
Hon. Ayariga said that the key thing for the country is to have a world class institution for the training of sportsmen and women in Ghana. The Minister assured the authorities of both institutions that he would come out with modalities within the next one month on how best the two institutions could work together and present it to cabinet for consideration.
Hon. Ayariga again added that he will review ongoing works at the college for the development of sports.
He proposed that the college should be named after one of Ghana’s great Sports personalities to encourage the youth.
He added that he would table that proposal before the president.
