This year’s Women’s 5km Health Walk/Run will be held virtually with only selected few attendees, according to the organisers who cited the Covid-19 pandemic for the change in the event format.
The event is slated for October 30 and is being sponsored by Frytol.
It is expected to attract women from all walks of life.
The Race Director, Mrs Catherine Morton, told GraphicSportsonline that “women strive to be superwomen, but that sometimes breaks their back and can be overwhelming.”
“The lack of time, support or energy can sometimes throw women off balance. It is in this regard that Frytol believes that a life of goodness is one to be pursued as women strive to achieve wellness in every sphere of their lives,” she noted.
She remarked that taking care of one’s wellbeing was what every woman deserved as well as a life of goodness which included a balance of their physical, spiritual, financial, emotional, mental and maternal health.
For her part, the Head of Marketing at Wilmar Africa Limited (the parent company of Frytol), Mrs Patience Oforiwa Mpereh, noted that her outfit coming on board as main sponsors of the Women’s 5K Run/Walk was a clarion call for all women to take their health and exercise seriously.
“Women find themselves multitasking on a daily basis and giving love to all around them except themselves; being passionate about getting things done; juggling so much – from raising responsible children to taking care of their homes, being great wives and working careers to cause social change; they should never forget their mental health,” she stated.
She called for sanity amidst all the confusion among women and added that her outfit was committed to educating women through tailor-made activities.
“Frytol is committed to ensuring that women live a life of goodness and enjoy safety in their maternal health while creating avenue for women to acquire self-awareness and better ways to consider and pursue their wellbeing amidst the turmoil to make them do their best,” she noted.
The Women’s 5K Run is an annual non-profit women’s only event created by sports outfit Activly Sports that brings together women to walk and run with the aim of throwing light on social issues affecting women and supporting women charities in Ghana.
The slogan for this year’s race is “Together we run the world”.
The event is also geared towards promoting women’s maternal and mental health, aside the fun and leisure, as well as making friends and getting business contacts.
