‘Don’t Rush Him, Leave Him To Find His Feet At Roma’ – Prince Tagoe On Afena-Gyan’s Black Stars Call-up

Former Black Stars striker Prince Tagoe has urged the technical handlers of the senior men’s national team to excuse Felix Afena-Gyan from national team assignments.

Afena-Gyan, 18, made his senior debut for Italian side AS Roma against Cagliari last month and has since been on the lips of Ghanaians with former Chelsea, Manchester United and current AS Roma trainer Jose Mourinho extolling the young forward

His outstanding display has caught the eye of coach Milovan Rajevac and thus handing him his modem call-up to the Black Stars ahead of Ghana’s crucial double-header against Ethiopia and South Africa next week.

The Wenchi-born attacking prodigy’s presence in the national team has divided opinions with many lauding the technical handlers of the national team for their quick move while others contend Gyan still needs to gather momentum at first team football to gain enough experience before being called.

Sharing the same opinion with the latter school of thought, Prince Tagoe advised:

“Felix is a good lad obviously but we should not rush him. This is not a friendly match but crucial World Cup Qualifiers,” he told Angel TV.
“Just a small issue can destabilise him. Let’s leave him to find his feet at Roma. We can invite him later” Tagoe reasoned.

Afena-Gyan has been named in coach Milovan Rajevac’s 28-man squad as Ghana seeks to usurp South Africa at the summit of group G and most importantly a place on the final phase of 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
