Ghana well placed to qualify for Rugby World Cup by 2027 – Herbert Mensah predicts

President of the Ghana Rugby Union, Herbert Mensah has predicted that by 2027, Ghana will be in pole position to qualify for the prestigious rugby world cup tournament.

According to the ace sports administrator, should the leadership of the union be able to follow the measures put in place even in the next administration, then Ghana will be able to secure a qualification to the rugby world cup.

Even though Ghana is currently in contest for a ticket to represent Africa in the world cup, Herbert Mensah believes should the team fail to annex a qualification, with the current measures put in place, the country’s team will be ripe for the prestigious tournament by 2027.

“I believe Ghana will be able in pole position to compete in the world cup by 2026, 2027 if we are still in charge and follow the right procedures, not to win it but to enter into the World Cup”, Mr. Mensah said after the climax of the Rugby Africa Sevens Championship at the Paa Joe Stadium in Kumasi on Sunday, November 28, 2021.

Meanwhile, both Ghana’s male and female national teams have qualified for the final world cup qualifying round to be held in April next year.

Ghana had its male and female national rugby teams emerging winners of the keenly contested competition to book a place in the final qualifying round.

The tournament serves as route for countries to book their places in the final qualifying round in April next year, which means winners will progress to the final round in 2022.

In the male category, Ghana commenced the campaign on a higher note, annihilating Niger 32-0 before whitewashing neighbors Benin 50-0 to book a place in the semifinals.
