Ghanaian teenage sensation, Felix Afena-Gyan has tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of AS Roma’s Serie A match day 15 clash against Bologna on Wednesday.
The 18-year-old made the headlines last weekend after bagging a double against Genoa to secure a crucial win for Roma in the Italian top-flight league.
Roma confirmed in a statement that the Sunyani-born star has contracted the deadly virus ahead of tomorrow’s fixture.
He has been isolated at his residence in Rome.
“The club can confirm that, following the latest round of molecular testing involving the first team squad, forward Felix Afena-Gyan has returned a positive test for COVID-19,” the statement read.
“The relevant health authorities have immediately been informed.
“The player, who has been vaccinated, is doing fine and has now begun isolating at home.”
Young Afena-Gyan is the first player born in 2003 to score in the Italian top flight in what was only his third appearance for the Gialarossi.
Afena-Gyan was handed a debut call-up to the senior national team of Ghana for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa and Ethiopia but failed to turn up due to personal reasons.
