Ghana defender Joseph Aidoo is expected to lead Celta Vigo’s defense against Real Madrid this weekend in the Spanish La Liga.
The sky-blues have not beaten the La Liga Champions at home since 2014.
In the last eight visits, they have lost seven times and have only achieved one draw
Joseph Aidoo faced the best aerial duel player of last season in all of Europe, Joselu Mato.
The Celta central defender won six duels, the Espanyol striker won five duels, almost all of them won against Unai Núñez.
The Ghanaian started the season at the same level he finished last despite the mistake he made in a clearance in which he left the ball dead on the edge so that Unai Expósito scored 2-1 for Espanyol.
The center-back also showed great effectiveness in passing. Throughout the match against Espanyol he attempted 72 passes.
Only Fran Beltrán with 67 deliveries and Óscar Rodríguez, with 62, surpassed the Ghanaian in successful passes. With an 85.3% effectiveness rate, he only missed eleven deliveries giving a total of 61 correct passes. He surprises how effective he is with long passes, of the seven he tried five came to the boots of a teammate.
Joseph Aidoo also saw the first yellow card of the season.
The defender was forced to bring down Nico Melamed to avoid a clear scoring chance for Espanyol after a mismatch between his teammates in midfield. Now he will look to Real Madrid for Karim Benzema and Vinicius to continue showing that he is ‘The Rock’ for Celta de Vigo.
