The manager of South Africa’s national boxing team, Michelle Rossouw is okay with the two medals they won in Kazan, Russia in the Brics Games boxing tournament.
“Most of our boxers are still freshers, they’ve learnt a lot here,” the affable Roussow told AFBC Communications.
She echoed sentiments expressed by former Algeria national team head coach, Azeddine Aggoune on how lack of constant top-notch competitions in Africa has derailed the progress of boxing.
“Boxers from Asia and Europe are always busy taking part in various tournaments but for us it’s different in Africa, and this was evidenced in their performance compared to our boxers,” said Roussow who is however satisfied with the silver and bronze they won in Kazan.
“We’re going back to the drawing board to rectify our mistakes but without having more competitions in Africa, our boxers will always be disadvantaged in big tournaments,” she stressed.
