Guinea to face Ghana after winning lots draw

Guinea players celebrateGuinea have been confirmed as Ghana’s opponents for the quarter final clash on Sunday at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

Syli Nationale ousted West African neighbours, Mali following a draw of lots on Thursday after both sides finished with identical records in Group D.

The two teams played out a 1-1 draw in the last group game on Wednesday, meaning all their three games ended 1-1 as both sides finished with three points, three goals scored and three goals conceded from three games apiece.

CAF rules necessitated a draw of lots to determine the superior team for the first time since 1988, which was promptly conducted in Equatorial Guinea some few minutes ago in favour of Syli Nationale of course.

Ghana and Guinea met in qualifying with the Black Stars defeating the Syli Nationale 3-1 in Tamale few days after a 1-1 draw in Morocco where Guinea played their home qualifying fixtures due to the Ebola outbreak in their own country.

The two sides will thus square off the Estadio de Malabo on Sunday afternoon for one of four places in the semi finals of Africa’s grandest football tournament.
